While in high school, I was the head anchor for the on-campus news and the individual who conducted majority of the interviews from special occasions. I managed to have 4 black and white, film and hand processed images displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston,Texas in the exhibit called, "Eye on Third Ward."I obtained a internship at The Houston Chronicle, the daily newspaper of Houston, Texas. There, I helped file and store images for the publication and edit a few images for the publication. Also, I recorded and edited sunday morning services at my home church, Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where Pastor Danny Davis serves as Pastor. I currently attend the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Broadcast Journalism.
During the Month of May and June, I was granted with the opportunity to study in Cape Town, South Africa assisting in a Urban Economic Development project. While in Cape Town, I volunteered by teaching to the children in Lavender Hill township, learn about the South African history and culture, and I created a business proposal for Hillwood Primary School on implementing and promoting parental involvement in the school. The experience was definitely life changing and one to remember.
I never underestimate my self because if it is something I truly want, nothing or no one can keep me from reaching my ultimate goal. I was told that if you have a dream, follow it, but until you reach it, speak it into existence. So from that, in the near future, I will be a news anchor on a local news network, preferably in Houston or Atlanta. Years on down the road, I want to produce my own talk show and establish my own Production Studio. But until then, Good Morning America, make room for me!
I am currently the proud intern at The Austin Socialite, a web-based magazine that spotlights upcoming artists and keep austinites up to date with events going on in the city limits.
My mother always told me to never get used to being good at things because I forget that being great is even an option. I challenge myself to go beyond what others expect of me. I set my standards higher and removed the word "can't" from my vocabulary. There's nothing you "can't" do because the sky is the limit. Failure is not an option, in my eyes, it does not exist.
