The Fear of Being a Minority

The Fear of Being a Minority is a short documentary I put together to better understand the reasons why African Americans do not apply to The University of Texas at Austin. Reasons varied. From this project, I learned that most African Americans who are used to being around people of their color, are not actually wanting nor ready to step outside their comfort zone and experience diversity first hand. As a current African American student here at UT, at first I felt like I was the odd ball in all my classes, I considered transferring to a Historically Black College or University, and I felt afraid. But as I became more socially involved to all the resources on campus, I felt better and less of an outcast. This project is another version of the project above. It provides more information, including statistics on the enrollment and acceptance percentage of African Americans who apply to UT as well as those who are admitted. Doing this project, I've learned many reasons as to why the enrollment of African Americans here at UT continues to remain the same or even decrease year after year.
